Hiili is a multiplayer voxel sandbox game. You dig, build, chop, craft, fish and fight in a shared world. It's written in C++ on a custom Vulkan engine called Tomulo.

World and digging. The terrain is real volumetric earth: soil, clay, sand and rock, with ore, coal and pockets of lava deep down. You change it only by physical work with a shovel or pickaxe. Carried material is counted in liters and is conserved, and loose soil slumps to its angle of repose. Water flows and boils away on lava.

Building and crafting. There is no build mode. Everything is done in normal play with the items in your hotbar. You craft at a table, and the recipes use any wood. They cover furniture, windows, barrels, lanterns, boats, notice boards, bows, swords, armour and shields. Mined ore and coal become ingots. The server syncs and saves your builds. You can 3D sculpt programmable new objects on a sculpting table, which you can craft with crafting table.

Life and fishing. Chickens, ducks, frogs and fish live in the world. Fishing is a real minigame: cast, strike at the right moment, then reel and ease off so the line doesn't snap. Catches range from roach to the legendary sturgeon. You can also row a boat and fish from it.

Combat.  Attack, Strength, Defence and Ranged levels decide how hard blows land. Swords have special moves, shields block, and armour wears down. Bows come in a wood from pine to redwood, and a better wood shoots harder but needs higher levels. The first boss, Krikkenkakkelkookel, is a chimera-like creature that sleeps in the deepest room of each dungeon. Its attacks come from its different body parts and can be seen coming.

Economy and ownership. Players trade through notice boards or face to face. The player will be able to purchase slot of land with Cryptocurrency.

Feel. The sound is entirely synthesized. It includes animal voices, cave echo, wind, birds, crickets and occasional quiet music. The game uses client-side prediction with server reconciliation and a fixed 20 Hz server tick. It's built to scale toward thousands of players.
